The fundamental purpose of A Legacy of Giving is to grow a generation of givers by teaching students about the importance of giving back to the community. We kicked off the spring semester with our Youth Summit, a half-day event designed to engage student leaders to collaboratively understand the role of an advocate and enhance their knowledge of philanthropy. Each participating Legacy middle and high school was represented by ten outstanding student philanthropists. For our main event, later in the spring, we are focusing on teaching kids how to live a healthy, nutritious life and maintain healthy bodies. We hold assemblies in local Austin schools introducing them to the issue we focus on for the year. Through customized curriculum, we partner with teachers of participating schools to present to their classes throughout the semester. After the students are well versed with the issue, the schools decide how they will advocate to their community for social change. This year each school will be submitting one 30-second PSA about living a healthy lifestyle and on April 11th we will be hosting a Youth Film and Food Festival during which the submissions will be screened. The winning PSA will be aired through a local media sponsor to spread the momentum of social change throughout the community.
