5% of sales on Wednesday, November 13, will benefit A Legacy of Giving at all four Austin Whole Foods Market locations

AUSTIN, TX. (Nov. 12, 2013) – The Whole Foods Market Downtown, Arbor Trails, Bee Cave and Gateway store locations will donate five percent of their November 13th net sales to Austin based non-profit organization A Legacy of Giving. Currently, A Legacy of Giving serves 36 Austin-area schools throughout Central Texas, from elementary to high school, teaching students the why and how to give back to their community. Teaching students how to be philanthropists and ways to give back to their community. The curriculum developed by Legacy educators is taught through academic assemblies, service events, and reflection lessons, all culminating into one event at the end of each semester where students can see the fruits of their labor.

Wednesday at Whole Foods Market, many of those students will join A Legacy of Giving to share their experiences, and to continue to raise support for current projects including a canned food and coats drive for two local non-profit partners: Capital Area Food Bank and Coats for Kids.

“As A Legacy of Giving teaches K-12 Austin area students how to be philanthropists, our alliance with community advocator Whole Foods Market, is a natural fit,” said Linda Brucker, executive director, A Legacy of Giving. “Students from across Austin’s economic and cultural spectrum are creating positive change in their communities and their world, and will learn from Whole Foods Market’s vision of integrating social change and advocacy into daily business—a practice we hope Legacy students will bring to their future employers. We are thrilled to partner with Whole Foods Market’s customers and team members to “grow the next generation of givers”.

Funds raised from the November 13th Community Giving Day will support A Legacy of Giving’s Day of Service, where student ambassadors from all participating Legacy schools gather together to deliver their collections of canned food and coats. Since 2006, Legacy of Giving students have collected 13,919 coats and 208,032 pounds of food for Central Texans.

“We’re so excited to invite A Legacy of Giving into our Austin Whole Foods Market stores to share their mission with our Austin community of shoppers and Team Members,” said Rachel Malish, Austin Community Relations Coordinator. “When guests shop on Wednesday, their support will immediately impact this local non-profit, which will help support numerous other non-profits in the future as Legacy continues to educate Austin youth on what giving their time and talents can mean in the community.”

The Whole Foods Market Austin Team Members encourage the community to do the bulk of their weekly shopping on Wednesday, November 13th, and support a great cause.
